Maybe Reilly Should Spend More Time in His Mother’s Basement

December 8, 2009

Rick, had an ENORMOUS scoop today on his Go Fish (not)blog. It’s about how you can buy a Nets player for an hour, plus some tickets, etc. to a Nets game for a mere $25,000! Good find, huh? Well, maybe if he had done it a little bit earlier. In fact, Deadspin, which is a (gasp) blog, had this same story 48 days ago. Forty. Eight. It’s right here. Reilly basically wrote the same column except with way worse jokes, such as having your Net say “Whassup, playa” in a business meeting. Yeah, that should get you that account you’ve worked so hard for. Guarding your lunch, getting your frisbee off the roof, etc., etc., etc. It’s nauseating, frankly. The comments section on Deadpsin has waaaay better jokes.

This from someone by the name of Deadliest Crotch:

“Knock-knock
Who’s there?
Jayson Williams.
Jayson Williams who?
BANG!”

And this one from UkraineNotWeak:

“I’m sure Jayson Williams has been bought and sold many a time in prison.”

There are others, too, that don’t have to do with Jayson Williams.

Anyway, one would think Reilly would be much faster to these stories than a blog, considering how little he thinks of them. We’ll always remember this famous quote (which I had to get from Canada this time because for some reason Newsday would rather not have people read them anymore. It’s also here if you don’t support Canada): “I don’t really go on the blogs, because they don’t really like anybody,” Reilly said. “Jesus could do a column and they’d be like, ‘What the hell is with the hair?’ It’ll always be something.”

Whatever, Rick. This “story” was broken 48 days ago by a blog. By a blog, Rick! And nearly two months later you decide to write basically the same thing on your own blog. It’s not a blog though, apparantly, just an innocent collection of “occasional and random mind dumps.” Well, in that case.

I love it! Rick Reilly has turned into one of the laziest sports journalists out there, so I take solace in every article I see that shares this sentiment. It’s disrespectful to Bill Simmons that he shares that box on espn.com with Rick Reilly’s garbage.
