This Tongue-Bathing’s Going to be a Little Tougher

Alert reader, Sean, sent me an e-mail this morning. It’s a resonse  to a specific e-mail Reilly answered on his (not)blog. Here’s Sean’s e-mail:

 

I’m sure you’re aware of RR’s Canadian Olympic medal prediction (from Rick Reilly Go Fish), but just in case …

 ”You are misguided. 3 medals in (the first) 22 events IS owning the podium by Canadian standards.”– Aaron Grover (Oshawa, Ontario)

[RR] Tell you what, if you guys get to 20 medals during these Olympics, we’ll make you the 51st state. How’s that?”

Yesterday Canada won some medals and currently count 21 in their pot. And the GWN currently leads the world in golds.

Awesome. Let’s add this to the ever-growing pile of lame predictions that Reilly got burned on. This one’s going to be harder to fulfill than that time he licked the capital dome in Denver. I mean, first of all, he’s going to have to get with Congress and the Secretary of State and maybe the Secretary of the Interior if that still exists. And then there’s going to be the matter of what to do with the Provinces. Will they just be counties or…what? And then, how many representatives and Senators does Canada get? Cuz population-wise, there’s not that many people, but they’re used to a much better ratio of representation than what they would be alotted based on their population in the US. So…Reilly’s gotta a lot of thinking to do here.

Oh, and I almost forgot, Canada doesn’t want to become a state. So there’s that.

Anyway…Obviously, this is all just frivolity, but  he hasn’t written a column in a few days and I’m running out of material. He’s probably sulking right now because Cheryl Bernard royally choked last night. But anyway, thanks, Sean. It’s always fun to kee p track of Reilly’s ridiculous prediction-promise combos.

One more quick piece of intrigue. Bill Simmons apparently took a little dig at Rick Reilly in his chat the other day. This from @Bobby_BigWheel via Twitter: “I’m amazed ESPN let Simmons keep his dig at Reilly in his chat transcript http://is.gd/9kqne (at 2:54 pm)”

How disappointed were you that Tiger didn’t end his media event by looking at the camera and saying “hey everybody, we’re all gonna get laid” followed by strippers giving lap dances to everyone in attendance?

Rick Reilly thought that tweet was disgusting.

It’s not horribly shocking, but really, if there’s anyone one person who can possibly get Reilly fired, it might be Simmons. He’s the only one on par as far as salary and following goes…and it’s good to see that they are, apparently, still not friends. Also, as “Bobby” noted, fun to see that ESPN allowed it. OK.
