Apolo Ohno’s Baseball Card > Rick Reilly’s Football Card
You may remember a few weeks back, we took a Vintage Rick Reilly look at his “football” card. Which, in 2005, was going for 1 cent on E-bay. In a story on ESPNs Page 2, Tracy Hackler wrote a little piece on Apolo Ohno’s card. It’s from the same Donruss Fans of the Game series that Rick’s card is in; same year in fact. Ohno’s “depicts” him as a fan of the Seattle Mariners, while Reilly’s is for the Los Angeles Rams (not St. Louis). According to Hackler, Ohno’s card is now selling for $10. That’s not a ton, but it’s 1000 times more than Reilly’s. Ohno’s signed version is going for $175, while Reilly gave his away for free to the only requestor ($3 for shipping, as he says). Apolo Ohno did not endear himself to me during the Olympics, what with the nudging and the complaining, and that medal he won because the Koreans knocked each other over 20 feet before the finish line. Anyway…the point is, Apolo Ohno’s card is literally 1000 times more valuable than Reilly’s. And I find that to be incredibly awesome. That’s all.
It’s been a slow few days what with the end of the Olympics and all. But assuming Reilly made it out of Canada alive, we can all look forward to a gem of a column tomorrow. Enjoy your Locke/Sayid/Claire nightmares.
