Weekend on the Links: Spring Training Edition
March 12, 2010
Here are a whole bunch of links for your weekend. We’ll keep them mostly baseball themed since, you know, Spring Training is here and that’s awesome. In case your interested, our 2010 MLB Previews can all be found here. Prvious Weekend on the Links are here and if you’re new to the site and want to check out some of our older stuff. There’s some stuff right here. All right onto the Links.
- If you haven’t already been here, Lookout Landing has an excellent primer on Sabermetrics. There’s a lot of information there, so it may not be good for one sitting. But it’s broken up into sections, which is helpful. Anyway, it’s pretty indespensible. [Lookout Landing]
- While we’re on the stats front, here’s another great resource. I’ve linked to it before, but it’s worth putting it up again. It’s the Emerald Guide to Baseball. It’s over 500 pages. It’s a pdf. It’s free. It’s got all the stats from last year (major and minor leaguers) and a bit of a 2010 preview. Great resource. [Emerald Guide]
- Here’s a fun post by Joe Posnanski wherein in he applied his “exciting baseball” formula. Flawed formula? Certainly. Interesting and entertaining read? Most defnitely. [JoePosnanski]
- The 1882 Metropolitan Baseball Nine…Awesome [LOC]
- Here’s an article by Joan Flynn Dreyspool from a 1955 issue of Sports Illustrated about Ted Williams. It’s a pretty good read. [SI]
- From Craig Calcaterra, here’s a short little post that might scare the shit out of Giants fans. [HardballTalk]
- From Veeck–As in Wreck, Bill Veeck’s autobiography, here’s the story of Eddie Gaedel, in Veeck’s own words.
- Clemente [Smithsonian]
- A very cool site with tons of details and stories about life in the Negro Leagues. [Kansas State University]
- Rob Neyer on –gasp– trading Joe Mauer. [SweetSpot]
- Mark Hulet of Fangraphs lists his Top 100 prospects. Have at it.
- We’ll wrap it up with a video. These are billed as the 10 Most Significant Plays in Baseball. That’s debateable, but good video nonetheless.

I know this is unrelated to the post, but I just ran across your blog at Bottom Of the Barrel, and I’m so happy that this blog exists. I cannot stand Rick Reilly. I have gripes with other writers, but Rick’s content is acutally terrible. He’s a non funny version of Bill Simmons.
